Haiku is a Japanese form of poetry.
The poems are limited to 3 lines and 17 syllables.

5 on the first line,
7 on the second line,
and 5 on the third.

I try to write one Haiku everyday.
Most days I fail, but some days inspiration strikes.
Sometimes it gushes for days at a time.
You can never tell when something will touch your heart.

Thanks for spending a moment reading
Haiku from the Heart.

I hope you'll be back to read my words.

Unstoppable Until...

Life. Flowing river.
Constant, hurtling, then merging
into the sea. Death.

Thanks, But I'll Do It Myself

Recycling day. Wind.
Paper scattered in all yards.
She gives, she takes back.

Tuesday, November 8, 2011

Almost bare branches.
Dry leaves scattered everywhere.
Messy. Beautiful.

Closing In

First snow of Autumn
Streets suddenly look narrow.
Trees laden with snow.

This is...

Carriages arrive.
Witches and undead spill out.
Halloween at school.

In strong defiance
of fall, Cosmos flowers dance
in the cool fall air.

Distant But Distinct

As the fiery leaves
fall off, a silence descends.
Winter approaches.

Hills on Fire

A rainy summer,
with a verdant bounty. Makes
for a fiery fall!

Still full of life he
died at ninety-five. Five years
away from his goal.

Am I better at
good cop or bad? No matter.
I have to do both.

Sunday, October 16, 2011

My life's not perfect.
But it's better than many.
Should count for something.

Sunday, October 9, 2011

Sure, I'm not perfect.
At least I try all the time.
Should count for something.

Some boulders you must
push till you find a slope they
will roll down themselves.

The New Peer Pressure

Am I being followed?
Does that push me to be more?
It's Twitter pressure.

Tweet, Tweet

Hello fellow bards!
Twitter helps me find many
haiku fans like me.

To Be Human

Stopped at a red light
I saw her crying as she
walked by. Made me sad.

On the Shoulders of...

Grass, vines, undergrowth
unseen nurturers of the
forest floor. Trees soar.

Thursday, September 8, 2011

River, Mother

Jagged mountain rock,
carried, polished, transported
into adulthood.

Torn Social Fabric

Economic drought.
Hopeless people pan-handle,
stripped of dignity.

Hanging On

Unwilling to go,
winter covers the earth with
a blanket of snow.

Conversations With My Parents

They, distant forest.
The wind brings their scents to me.
Me, earth. Miss their shade.

Conversations With My Love

She, ocean. Constant.
Her tides ebb and flow for me.
Me, earth. I stand still.

Tuesday, March 29, 2011

Conversations With My Kids

Kids, clouds. They float free.
Their words like raindrops, drench me.
Me, earth. I listen.

Water rushes by,
groaning with the weight of lives
and dreams swept away.

Thursday, March 17, 2011

It's raining softly.
Seagulls circle overhead,
searching for shadows.

Friday, March 11, 2011

Tired but restless,
my mind turns to poetry.
Haiku helps me sleep.

Can't Stop? Or Won't?

Do rivers want to
stop and rest? Do receding
glaciers make them glad?

How I Learned Patience...

My heart racing fast,
I profess my love. She says,
"Slow down Romeo".

Blowing in the wind,
Fifty fair fruit of freedom.
The Stars and the Stripes.

Mental Overload

Need inspiration.
But I can't empty my mind
to let it flow in.

Pointless Existence - Maybe Not

What is my purpose?
Finding friends that fill my life
with joy. Then, give back.

Pointless Existence - Stuff

What is my purpose?
Buy cool stuff that I can't keep?
That seems pointless too...

Pointless Existence - Time

What is my purpose?
Fill the days with man-made time?
That seems so pointless.

Saw a deer today
that looked both ways before it
crossed the street. How strange!

Saturday, January 29, 2011

No... Thank You!

Grateful for some shade,
the weary traveler gives
purpose to the tree.

Tuesday, January 25, 2011

Far Away...

Wind blown seeds become
trees, never to return to
their forest of birth.

Winter dawn. The Moon
waits in the sky, hoping for
a glimpse of the Sun

Winter Sunrise

Bright winter morning.
Sun rising behind smoky
mountains, breathtaking!

Sunday, January 16, 2011

Half an Hour

Coffee shop, a book.
A brief oasis in a
parent's busy day.

Through the Storm

"Dad, can you tell me?"
"Dad, I have something to say"
"Dad, you know what? Dad?"

Fury of the Many

Snowflakes trampled by
skis, boards, don't complain. But if
provoked, AVALANCHE!

Sunday, January 9, 2011

Power of the Many

Snowflakes small, gentle,
delicate, unique, countless.
Silence large mountains.

Cold, harsh winters break
my branches. But my roots are
strong. I will survive.
